Are you asking if Openfire can have a hybrid authentication approach, whereby users are either authenticated via NTLM or a local user database to Openfire?

yes, you can use the hybrid provider. there are a few gotchas to keep in mind. local users are stored in the database. Local user passwords can’t be set using the gui, therefore you have to be update them directly in the database. Those passwords would be in plain txt.
