Spark.exe 2.7.x process starts and immediately ends

We have a Spark client that was previously working and then after a reboot refuses to stay running.

  • Open Fire Server 3.10.2 on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit Server (also was experiencing the same issue on Open Fire Server 3.10.1 version)

  • Spark Client 2.7.1 on Windows 7 64 bit (also was experiencing the same issue on Spark Client 2.7.0 version)

When we start the spark.exe program the Spark Authentication window pops up and the spark.exe process can be seen in the task manager. A few seconds go by and the Spark Authentication window closes and the spark.exe program disappears from the task manager.

We found no logs in the Windows Event Viewer on this issue.

The user with this issue has been working on Spark 2.7.0 for months with no issues and had full Domain Admin rights. I have added this user as owner with full rights to the entire spark installation directory and it made no difference.

When we try the spark.exe program under one of our domain administrator accounts on this same machine it works and we were able to login to spark with the user with the problem and other users as well under this profile. We have tried using windows compatibility mode and the “Run As Administrator” option and symptoms still persist.

The day before we had upgraded the java on this computer from 8.45 to 8.60. We reverted back to 8.45 and the problem still persist.

We disabled UAC and problem still persist.

I would like to try a complete uninstall of the Spark program to test a clean install but have found no way to do that.

What else can we try? This is the only machine in our enterprise that has been affected.

Such issues are hard to investigate. Something is interfering the Spark process. You can try 2.7.2 version, which is using Java 8 and has been build with Java 8 (compiled). But it probably won’t change anything (worth a try).
