Christmas has come early.

Our github repository - GitHub - igniterealtime/Openfire: A XMPP server licensed under the Open Source Apache License. - reached a thousand and one stars today, so we've celebrated by releasing Openfire 4.1.0, containing over 150 fixes and new features. I feel I should personally thank Daryl Herzmann and Guus der Kinderen in particular for the gargantuan effort they've both put into this release, but we're also very lucky to have a large number of developers within the community providing us with high-quality patches via Pull Requests. This is, once again, a huge collective effort.

Openfire 4.0.0 Released

Posted by Dave Cridland Champion Jan 11, 2016

Almost 4 weeks ago, we released a beta of Openfire 4.0.0. Now, it's time for the real thing.

Openfire 4.0.0 is now available for immediate download. The Beta has been run in production by developers for some time, and we believe this is the best ever Openfire release, containing many new features and fixing dozens of bugs. It marks the culmination of a real resurgence in Openfire development.

We advise all users to plan on upgrading; the 3.10 branch will not be receiving anything other than critical fixes. The new 4.0 branch will be the focus for bug fixes, and the trunk is now 4.1.

Many of the plugins available from Ignite Realtime: Openfire Plugins will only work on 4.0.0, and will therefore require this upgrade.

You can download the new release from: Ignite Realtime: Downloads

Openfire 4.0.0 Beta

Posted by Dave Cridland Champion Dec 14, 2015

Wouldn't it be great if your favourite XMPP Server was almost about to make a major release? Well, stop imagining, and start downloading, because Openfire 4.0.0 has reached Beta status!

This means that while we're quite sure there's bugs to be found, we believe the server is stable enough to use for formal testing and careful use in non-critical production environments (which means, basically, we're using it on igniterealtime.org itself and our own servers).

So if you're keen to help make this the best Openfire release we've ever made, then download, install, and keep us posted in the chatroom at open_chat@conference.igniterealtime.org

Enjoy!

The Ignite Realtime community is very proud to release Openfire 3.10.0 for general availability from http://www.igniterealtime.org/downloads/

The amount of energy that has gone into this release is truly impressive, and it shows no signs of slowing down - as those of your looking at the 3.11 branch will have seen. Further 3.10.X releases will be bugfix releases; 3.11 will concentrate on a path to 4.0.0.

3.10.0 itself brings new core features to Openfire (such as Message Carbons, for example, by Christian Schudt) and vital improvements (to clustering and MUC, for example, by Tom Evans), as well as some hard bugfixing (by Guus der Kinderen) and important security improvements.

As ever, we welcome pull requests (to 3.10 or master as appropriate), and the entire development team is looking forward to you joining the conversation either in the forums or in the XMPP chatroom at open_chat@conference.igniterealtime.org

Happy Chatting!

Dave.

UPDATE: Spark 2.6.3 version has issues with connecting to this version of Openfire. We suggest updating to just released 2.7.0 version of Spark.

UPDATE 2: Openfire 3.10.1 has been released recently, which is again compatible with Spark 2.6.3 when using TLS (thanks to this fix [OF-907] SSLv2 Hello is rejected; prevents some clients connecting - Jive Software Open Source )

Openfire 3.10.0 Beta

Posted by Dave Cridland Champion Jan 21, 2015

Hey everyone,

Since I took on the role of Openfire project lead, the Openfire developers have been working amazingly hard across almost every part of the server's code, with a view to making a new release we can all be really proud of.

After a huge amount of work, the Openfire team is really excited to announce we've reached a beta state with the 3.10.0 release, available from http://www.igniterealtime.org/downloads/beta.jsp

This release aims to improve security and stability over the current 3.9.3 stable release, provides a set of important new protocol extensions, and modernizes the XMPP core protocol support - in short, this is going to be the release we wanted to make.

While this is a beta release, we're not recommending it for critical production use; however this is running on igniterealtime.org itself and developer sites, and we'd appreciate people trying it out in non-critical production cases.

We're hoping it'll reach full release rapidly, and we'll be welcoming experiences of anyone deploying so we can add that last polish. Having dealt with the last remaining blocking bug, we're expecting this to move to a final stable release within a week or two.

Dave.
