Eating Our Own Dog Food

We (Jive Software) launched Clearspace X just about one month ago, our external community software product that combines discussions, wiki documents and blogging. [As an aside, we provide free Clearspace X licenses to Open Source projects.] So, why aren’t we using it here on igniterealtime.org yet? There’s lots of good excuses, but we’ve been hard at work on the migration and it will happen soon. What will the change to Clearspace X mean?

  • The same discussions functionality we have with Jive Forums, but with an updated UI.

  • Migration of the blog engine to the Clearspace platform (this will be fairly transparent).

  • A rich new set of functionality around wiki documents. We’re already planning lots of great content.

We’re looking forward to the new features and to getting your feedback on them. I’ll post more migration details in the forums soon.

Hello.

Clearspace seems a great product. Or myabe it is Clearspace X? I still can’t understand le real difference between the 2 products, on jive site the readme is the same for both… What’s the trick?

Hi Aur??lien,

as Matt (or someone else) did approve your post he could have also posted an answer. I did install CS 1.0.0 a long time ago and CSX 1.1.1 recently and I didn’t find out what the difference is.

CS seems to be for internal usage only while CSX seems to be for public usage or sharing with other customers.

LG

Aur??lien,

Point well taken on the jivesoftware.com website needing to be clearer about this. LG has it right – Clearspace is intended for teams inside of organizations, while Clearspace X is meant for building public online communities. Both products are built on the same base but have UI and feature differences that make them better suited for each purpose.

Regards,

Matt
