Migration Maintenance

Over the next week or so, I'm working with Daryl Herzmann to get all the existing Ignite Realtime services migrated to their new server homes.
Please bear with us as there may be some short outages here and there during this process. I'll post specific times as they become available.
Thanks!
FYI - Igniterealtime.org mail has been migrated to the new servers, and the forums are using those new servers. Yay!
Rock and Roll!
I'm changing the existing SVN server to be read-only for the next 30 minutes or so. I'll then update the new SVN server which I've been testing, and switch over DNS.
SVN is migrated to the new servers! You may need to wait up to 10 minutes for your local DNS cache to catch the change.
JIRA and Fisheye/Crucible are entering maintenance mode immediately as of this post.
I hope to have them back online on the new server in an hour or less.
Taking a bit longer than expected to get them back online, but still in progress.
Jira and Fisheye/Crucible are back online and moved to the new servers!
And not just online... but also upgrade to the latest versions! There's some oddness with the color theming on the Jira instance...so, disregard that. I'm sure one of the Jira admins will clean it up.
Also, I should note that in moving SVN, it was upgraded to a 1.6.12 server, too.
Nothing like having the latest gear : D Big thanks!
I'm always for the latest versions, though i will have to get used with new Jira and Fisheye. New GUI looks so.. flat
Too much white space.
So, what's next? SBS 4.5 maybe? ![]()
Wow, not satisfied? ![]()
In fact, YES! I'm working on upgrading to Jive SBS 4.5.
Once the bugs are worked out of the upgrade, I'll be moving the website/SBS from the old servers to new... as well as Openfire... and we'll be 100% moved!
It seems that i liked the old layout of the ticket better, more condenced layout. Nevermind. I will eventually get used, like always
Btw, mail notifications aren't working in Jira. I made a comment on a ticket i watch, and didn't get a notification. Unless this new version is finally wise enough not to inform me about my moves ![]()
Can you leave a comment on this issue? http://issues.igniterealtime.org/browse/
SPARK-237 So we will see is it working.
Mail notifications should be fixed now.

Changing URL's are evil. Evil for people like me who do have bookmarks which do no longer work and also for search engines. Not sure whether we really want search engines to index all Fisheye pages, a robots.txt file which limits access to the trunk directories may be fine.
LG
PS: My updated Fisheye bookmark: http://fisheye.igniterealtime.org/changelog/svn-org/openfire/trunk
Yep. I've noticed that my recent browser history, which i use a lot to browse to Jira tickets, is useless now
But i didn't want to complaint even more ![]()
I don't like changing URL's either, but it's a LOT easier to migrate when the apps are on their own host names... My intent was to make it so the URL redirects from /issues and /fisheye would send along the original requested paths, so if that's not working, I just need to fix it.
When i try http://www.igniterealtime.org/issues/browse/
SPARK-1126 it throws me to http://issues.igniterealtime.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa
Okay! Fixed the URL rewrite issue... so clicking the first URL now sends you where you expected on issues.ignitereatime.org. etc.

Great ![]()
(test response via email)
Your faithful president approved said changes, so there will be no
complaints! Seriously, if the community gripes too much, we can always
change it back once Benjamin gets everything migrated. We'll have the
power to break things every way imaginable. ![]()
Benjamin has been putting in a tremendous effort for us, he'll be the
patron saint of igniterealtime.org!

I don't have a permission to attach files in JIRA anymore.
Hey wroot,
What is your Jira username? For some reason, I am having a tough time finding it. Perhaps something is up with the ongoing migration.
You want perms for Spark and Openfire, right?
daryl
Daryl, my username in Jira is wroot. Yes, mainly Spark and Openfire, though i can file a ticket with patch for Smack on occasion.
wroot,
Attachments were disabled, I enabled them now. Please try again.
daryl
I would love for anyone to be able to create jira issues, but not to
assign a fix version. Thoughts?

Well. we can give it a try. On a side mark, in December i have cleared tens of Spark issues which werent reproducable, had no decent description, old, etc. And all of them were filed by allowed users ![]()
Works. Thanks ![]()
Folks,
Benjamin has completed a test migration of the "community" section of the igniterealtime website (Jive SBS), so we are ready for the real deal. He'd like to complete this migration sometime between 3 PM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) and midnight tonight. He expects roughly one hour of downtime to complete the migration.
daryl
Excellent! Looking forward to the new version!

We have tested and are proceeding with the openfire migration now. I got the new server running the 3.7.0 beta ![]()
daryl
Sweet! Any snags you ran into? That'd be interesting data to share with
others that will upgrade to the new beta.
You guys are doing a great job! Things are finally moving! Exciting times!

So, i see this is even 4.5.1 now. Is it some kind of beta? Now few comments:
First of all i cant reply to original post, and i'm now on the 3 page of this thread, so i had to reply to Guus message. Simple nothing happens then i press Reply to original post (Firefox 3.6.6, Windows XP).
Bookmarks are still broken, so now maybe it is time to fix this. I mean Bookmarks widget. It shows error and all outside bookmarks were missing before the upgrade to 4.5.1.
Moderation. One more thing which was broken before the upgrade. It shows (1) in My stuff, but there is nothing to moderate if i go there. Same for LG.
When i first time logged in, it started to show my name instead of a nickname to me. I don't remember now what i had in the Name field before. Now i just put my nickname in the Name field and it shows me my nickname (which i prefer) again. And i want to see nicknames of other people as i'm used to them. If this setting was changed during the update, maybe we should change it back? As others maybe used to nicknames too.
P.S. one long standing issue for me with SBS. Then i reply in a thread it throws me to a first page, though it would be logical to get me back to the last post in the thread.
Hey wroot - Benjamin is currently still busy starting-stopping the server all the time. Some of the problems might be related to that.
I can verify that the My Stuff (1) Pending Moderation thingy is still there. I'm not sure what to make of that.
I'm not using paginating for this website (I wasn't even aware that such a feature existed), so I'm not experiencing those problems.
I agree with you on the nickname thingy. We should re-implement the old presentation based on nicknames, not based on real names, as that's what people are used to here.
Benjamin, I'm not sure if we need a SBS developer for some of the issues that Wroot (re)raised. What do you think? If so, could you direct one here? ![]()
Btw, i havent received a mail notifications about your reply. Maybe they should be enabled somewhere. I have managed to fix Bookmarks widget by removing it and adding again.
I would be glad to not have a pagination here as well, but i never found such option. Hm, maybe that's because i'm using a flat view?
One more thin about bookmarks. Widget gets broken if i set it to show more than 20 bookmarks. Probably some of the older bookmarks are causing this, or maybe this weidget can't show more that 20 of them.

I wouldn't mind to have one here
I've noticed one more thing. Usually i open discussion in new tabs by right-clicking on the titles and selecting Open Link in New Tab in my Firefox 3.6.6. Usually it takes miliseconds to show a context menu. But if i hover over some nickname here and wait until ajax popup is shown, then if i right-click any link it takes very long to show a context menu.
Favpic has been changed to Jive's logo ![]()
Hi wroot, we turned on email debugging to see why SBS isn't sending forum notifications. This is a test ![]()
daryl
Any news about email notifications? Today i've got a notification about a comment on a doc i watch. But still no notifications about new replies in threads.
I've got a mail from Ignite Webmaster today about updating SBS license. Should i ignore it?
Hello,
Your help is needed to ensure continued uninterrupted service of Ignite Realtime to your community members.
License reports are required in order to ensure accurate management of Jive customer accounts. Your license report is due to Jive Software by 07/29/2010. If a report is not received by this date, Ignite Realtime will be disabled until this report is received.
Should Ignite Realtime become disabled, please be assured that all of its data will remain secure and intact. However, access to Ignite Realtime will be restricted to system administrators only until a report is submitted. Once a report is received, your community will be reactivated immediately once the report has been submitted and response confirmation code has been installed.
For more information on submitting a report, please check the license information page or navigate to Admin Console > System > License Information. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Jive Software account representative.
Thank you.
Jive Software
Btw, i can't go to People tab in SBS Admin Console. It shows unexpected error
Benjamin just upgraded us, does it appear now for you?
PS. Almost testing email notifications ![]()
daryl
Yes. I can see People now. So, do mail notifications are nenabled now? I've got a notification about your reply ![]()
And, maybe someone can look into that Moderation (1) issue. This gloving "Your Stuff" is bugging me. Probably it's something messed up in the database.
I just cleared out 37 bogus threads from the moderation queue.
Please let me know if you are still seeing odd/extra items in the moderation queue.
Moderation menu has disappeared from my Stuff, so probably it is fixed now. Thanks.
Strange, though. So far i'm only getting mail notifications from this thread. No emails about replies in other threads that i watch.
Reply to original post is fixed too.
I wonder, do we really need to automatically zip every attachment (and can we disable this?)? I have unzipping every xx KB file i want to open here.
ZIP attachment? What attachment?
If you attach anything in the forums (or in the doc) it will get zipped and the attached.
Ah - I didn't notice that before. I would actually quite welcome that feature. Why don't you like it? To much data? I can't find a option in my personal preferences to turn attachments off - perhaps we could make a feature request with Jive? Seems like an easy enough option...
I don't want to turn off the attachments, i don't want them to be automatically zipped here. It's just time consuming to unzip every attachment to be able to read it or then attach in the Jira, if this is a patch. Now every file attached in the forums, even a text file of xx bytes, is zipped.
cat wroot-msgs.* > /dev/null ![]()
Ah. Perhaps there should be some kind of mime-type dependency... But again, that's more a request for Jive Support, I guess... Not sure what we can do about it here.
In all seriousness, there's not an option to disable attachment zipping. You may post an idea about that over on Jive's community ( http://www.jivesoftware.com/jivespace/ ) if you wish.
So, no option to revert to nicknames in forums instead of names?
You can change this in your personal profile settings.
Goto your profile, click Edit Profile and Privacy, click Privacy Settings tab, set Name visibility to "Yourself" only... now everyone but you will see only your username.
I've asked around, but I don't think there is a system-wide way to do this.
Ack! I've already been corrected!
Apparently there IS a default setting we can change to show usernames instead full names. Is this something we want to try out? Maybe this should be a poll. ![]()
Well. This was this way for years. I have a good memory. So i remember lots of nicknames, and now i just don't recognize some folks. Sometimes avatars help. Most nicknames are easier to memorize than names. I don't know. We can sure make a poll, and get 14 answers ![]()
I'm with wroot - let's keep it like it was. That'll be most familiar to most people.
Apparently my understanding of the solution was limited. There is not a global "just show usernames" option.
I can set the default for new users to only show username, but that is the only system setting available.
The only other option is to modify the database and change all users to "just show username". I can do that if you guys still approve.
Sorry for the mix-up.
Just don't forget to make a backup ![]()
I've got 2 mails already today:
Hello,
The Ignite Realtime Jive SBS instance is having trouble connecting to the chat presence provider. If you need assistance to resolve the problem, please contact Jive Support.
Thank you.
Jive Software
Fine, so the SBS restart did at least activate the plugin. We may configure it on Monday.
(Should we once again display a green ball for every user which is connected to our xmpp server?)
This is the Openfire plugin in SBS that fails to connect to Openfire. I tried to configure it, but Openfire keeps throwing SSL-related errors. I'll try to update the libraries in Openfire, see if that resolves anything.
So, i keep getting lots of these messages that chat presence is not working. Also i see a widget on a page to chat with friends, this page. Can i disable it?
Why do you want to disable it? I hope that it works one day. Add community.igniterealtime.org##div.jive-eim-nub to your custom Adblock Plus filter.
Well i don't want to talk to a page
And i don't have many friends in my profile and i can talk to them in my Spark. I dislike sliding widgets on pages.
"Can i disable it?" Yes. Open your profile, edit preferences and there you will see "IM preferences"
Yes. I've already found it few days ago ![]()
What happened to thread names? They are wrapping after a few words, though there seems enough free space to fit them better.
Hi,
there's once again one with a long name: "I don't want to supply this information.". And as Jive did not yet fix the default format when one is using a long name the layout looks broken. So this is no migration problem. One simply needs to fix the CSS and I did post the fix already somewhere some centuries ago.
LG
Another point for using nicknames. I know this is not a migration issue. We need another thread say "Whining corner"
I don't want to start another thread for every problem i encounter.
I did create
WEB-11 with a link to jivesoftware.com. Actually it does not matter whether the "name" or the "username" is so long.
Nicknames are usually shorter.
